Samsung had recently released a list of its devices that will be getting the Android 4.4 KitKat update in the United States but there was no information about the international models. Now a blogger from Poland who got in touch with a local representative of the Korean manufacturer has released a list of the same.
But what is surprising is the fact the Galaxy S3 is missing from the list whereas, the Note 2 which hit the launchpad along with it is there. The 1GB RAM of the device is being cited as the reason for it not getting the update.
- Samsung Galaxy Note 3
- Samsung Galaxy S4
- Samsung Galaxy S4 Active
- Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini
- Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom
- Samsung Galaxy Note II
- Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition)
- Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1
- Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0
- Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0
- Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0
- Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1
- Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3
- Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8
- Samsung Galaxy Grand
- Samsung Galaxy Express 2
But if you dig a bit deeper, you'll find that the Galaxy Grand which has lower specs and the same amount of RAM is getting the update. On top of it, KitKat has been optimised to run on 512MB RAM devices as well so we don't see a reason as to why the Galaxy S3 shouldn't be getting the update. The US version of the S3 has a 2GB RAM and it will be getting the KitKat update.
Samsung has earned itself a reputation in the smartphone arena by launching constant updates for its devices and it will face a severe dent if it does not update the popular Galaxy S3 to Android 4.4 KitKat. We hope Samsung update the smartphone with the latest flavour of Android.
